Creative Commons (CC) licenses are standardized legal tools that allow creators to clearly communicate which rights they reserve and which rights they waive for the benefit of users. They are widely used in academic publishing and Open Access to ensure that research outputs, teaching materials, and other works can be shared, reused, and built upon under specific conditions.
